Merino Extreme - Crew Length - Anti Blister System

First Test Items: Merino CoolMesh II, Merino Escape

Test Conditions: washed, before use, per brand instructions; backpacking; modern full height/support hiking boots; arch support orthotic inserts; 38-42 lbs pack weight; 45-50 miles, ~6,000ft elevation (gain and loss), very rugged trail or no trail

Considerations: test subject walks/stance slightly out-toed (external foot rotation)

The good:
• comfortable (except a few hot-spots)
• durable (so far)
• some heat dissipation during heavy use
• warm at night

The "expected better":
• while smaller and less in number, blisters were still generated (inside both heels)
• sweat/moisture build-up was noticable; doesn't dry as fast as wool.
• polyester inner layer doesn't have the same odor resistance as Merino wool (possible opinion)

Additional Notes: **This is an incomplete review and all of this is subjective/personal experience**. Blisters mainly formed on the downhill, due to repeated heavy impact, but could be due to the orthotics' "cup" or "walls" in the heel section. More testing is obviously still required.

I’ve used these socks on several Caminos and always carry four pairs with me. Over routes of 800 to 1,200 km, changing my socks twice a day has helped prevent blisters and kept my feet dry.

A friend recommended a pair of Wrightsocks for our first Mammoth March. I decided on the merino extreme for its warmth and cushioning. I am sold! Never changed sock during our 20 mile hike in the rain and mud. Fortunately, I wore hiking boots to keep my feet dry, but the success for comfort starts with awesome socks. I'm sold!!

I want to say their customer service was amazing! I am planning on walking the camino in a few years but am probe to blisters. I have not worn the socks yet on an extreme trip or put them to the test. I wanted to get them so i could get the proper size footwear. I am excited about these socks and being able to complete hiking journeys without worrying about blisters.

I purchased these socks after having them recommended to me by a long-time scoutmaster who was giving a presentation on winter backpacking in the Northeast. Normally my feet are always cold on winter hikes, with my toes going numb within half an hour of starting out unless the hike is very strenuous. These socks kept my feet warm during a two hour, stop-and-go stroll through a winter market on a 23 degree (Fahrenheit) day as a chaperone for a school field trip. I didn't even think about my feet until my son mentioned that his feet were freezing and I realized that my feet were not cold. No numbness in my toes at all. It was mind boggling. I cannot recommend these socks enough, they are simply fantastic!

I had invested a fortune in all the top brands of Merino wool socks but still struggled with blisters. It was on a Reddit forum, where I was researching how to tape my heels as a final desperate attempt to avoid blisters, that I found a recommendation for these socks. They were kind enough to upgrade shipping so they'd arrive before my 14-day trip to Iceland, where I hiked every.single.day. No tape because I didn't need to. By the end of the trip, I had ZERO blisters. That's never happened before! I will be a customer for life.

I've worn Wright socks for just over a year and have never been dissappoiinyed.
I bought one pair of the double marino, what a great sock!
My only issue is I should have bought several pairs!

Tried these out the first really cold day (temps in the teens) and they kept my toes nice and toasty. Much better than using two pairs of socks, which I had been doing. Well worth the cost.

I have worn Wrightsock for the past four years hiking and will now take then to new heights in March 2023 to Mt Everest Base Camp, and with massive bunions on my 76 year old feet, and still have not had a blister. Chris from South Australia

I have never seen a warmer sock so perfectly crafted. I do not even want to take them off to sleep. They are my favorites ! Sadly, I have only one pair so far.

I’ve been using Wrightsocks for 10 years now and I’ve never had an issue. We’re going to Everest Base Camp for Christmas this year and I needed some very warm footwear. I’ll let you know more when I return.
